Sheaf Digital Power BI Training - Wakefield College
Sheaf Digital has just delivered two days of Microsoft Power BI training to the management information and systems teams at Wakefield College.
The training was based on our Get Started with Power BI & Microsoft Power BI for Educators courses, but then modified to be a closer fit with the requirements of the Wakefield College team. The Wakefield team has extensive SQL Server Reporting Services experience and now wants to begin to use Power BI to share reports and dashboards with colleagues. The training included plenty of time to discuss how Power BI could be implemented in the college.
The course outline looked something like this:
- Writing reports with Power BI Desktop
- Loading up data from Microsoft Excel.
- A simple report based on data about apprenticeship starts
- Tables and relationships in Power BI.
- Calculated columns and measures.
- A simple attendance report
- A student dashboard report
The second day of the course was more focused on the online Power BI service and how it could be used to share reports with different groups across the college. We looked in more depth at workspaces, permissions and Apps in Power BI.
